Angel Wings

Our dear friend Dona Hinshaw gained her angel wings on 12-24-2018. With her passing she left a special request that in lieu of flowers, she requested that contributions be made to the Corvallis Primary playground fund. It is our hope to eventually have a playground with new, safer structures, as well as a memorial that honors the contributions of our beloved Mrs. Hinshaw for all that she has done to make our school and community a better place.

Dona spent countless hours on the Corvallis Primary playground tending to the care and safety of students. She was passionate about the need for an upgraded, more developmentally appropriate play area for the young children in our school.  Dona had such a heart for children and believed that providing a playground that could better meet the physical needs of children would benefit them in multiple areas of growth and development.

A PayPal account has been set up where donations can be made (see to the right).  Contributions can also be sent to Corvallis School, PO Box 700, Corvallis, MT 59828. Please put Corvallis Primary Playground Fund Acct. #54 in the memo.

*** Donations are tax deductible.

Thank you for helping Mrs. Hinshaw‘s legacy of love live on.

From : Michelle Kushan

Dona was one of the first people I ever met when my son Jordan started Kindergarten at Ilalko Elementary school.  She was also one of the people that was largely responsible for me getting involved in PTA. Her and Sandy Peace were always so welcoming and nice and really tried to include the new moms to get involved. She was always so positive, funny and diplomatic whenever any issues arose which you know always happens in PTA.  One of the funniest stories she ever told us was when they were living in Lakeland hills and there was a large rat that had somehow gotten into their house. It was in the dining room and her husband had it cornered on the top of the curtain rod on the  dining room window. Her husband had a bat(? I think?) and locked eyes with it and the rat jumped right at him. Her husband went nuts swinging the bat and I think he killed it. We were laughing so hard at the visual when she was describing it. She is always so funny!

I was sad when she moved but know that Montana is a place she loves. Praying for healing, comfort and peace for her and her sweet family. She is strong and if anyone can beat this beast, it would be Dona. I’m sure the school is missing her presence each and every day!

From Naomi

Dona,  You have touched me and so many others with your love and kindness.  Here are a few things that make me think of you.

                                I See You

I see you among the tall pine trees
with flowers blooming full.
I see you in my students eyes
because I know they have been touched by you.
I see you when I hug my dogs
knowing you loved them too.
I see you when I think of your boys
who you gave everything to.
I see you when I see someone
who does something kind.
I see you surrounded by love that
is oh so Devine.

Hugs & Love to you!!!!

Love from Jan M-S!

Dona,

You have always told the best stories....the kind of stories that make me laugh, or cry, or sometimes both at the same time.  Whether your story is about a kindergarten kiddo or one of your many four-footed friends, you tell it with such love and detail that I always want to know more.  I think that's because you "see" so well that you capture the details and also get straight to the heart of the matter.  I count myself lucky to be one of the people "seen" by you...and I shall never forget how you welcomed me to your home at my first staff Christmas party.  :-)

You probably already know this... the Zulu greeting, “Sawubona” means “I see you” and the response “Ngikhona” means “I am here to be seen”.

I love the depth of meaning in this greeting and in the grateful response: There is the sense that until you saw me, I didn’t exist. By recognizing me, you brought me into existence.

A Zulu folk saying clarifies this, “Umuntu ngumuntu nagabantu“, meaning “A person is a person because of other people”

Dona, so many children, adults and furry four-footers are "persons" because of you.  I see you, Dona.  I see you.

With love and many memories of your generosity and shared laughter,

Jan M-S

Dona,
You've always made Corvallis Primary such a fun place to be.  Whether it's dressing like a rodeo clown, having cheetos thrown at your head, or putting on a cape like the super hero you truly are, you're always up for the task.  All that love that you have put out into the world is coming right back at you now.  I hope you can feel it!
Love, Krista

Love4Dona

If you are visiting this page, it is most likely because you have been impacted or touched in some way by Dona Hinshaw. Mrs. Hinshaw has been a paraprofessional in the Corvallis School District for 14 years.  She has worked in the middle school, primary library, and for the past 8 years in kindergarten. Her duties as a paraprofessional go far beyond what could be put into words, but we do know one characteristic that is not in her job description, but she performs every day is to LOVE! She has always gone out of her way to go the extra mile, tying shoes, giving hugs, or making sure every child has a coat.  Dona not only shows love to the students, but all of those around her.

This blog has been created for us to show our LOVE for Dona! Please leave comments below and let her know how LOVED she is! If you would like to leave a note/message/photo but don't know how, feel free to email us at pawscorvallis@gmail.com and we will post your note/message.

Dona, you are so loved!  We miss seeing your smiling face at school!
